Birch

August 1 - 13

Because of its silver bark, the birch was sacred to the god Lugh, after whom the festival of Lughnassadh on August 1 was named.  In Celtic mythology Lugh had a silver hand and a silver spear with which he created lightning.  Because of its bright color the birch was also associated with the moon goddess venerated during the late summer time.

Those born in the sign of the Birch share an unusual combination of both the materialistic and the imaginative.  One of the chief characteristics of the Birch personality is to constantly question the world about them.  They are both analytical and self-critical, sometimes to the extent of impeding progress.  However, the Birch person can achieve remarkable results in a very short time.  In social circumstances the Birch is often the one to initiate, plan and organize events.  Sometimes, however, they make try to organize others to much.
