Blackthorn is an extremely dense, almost impenetrable bush that spreads to create dark and secret places.  It usually grows in broad thickets and its long, sharp spines afford the perfect shelter for small birds and animals.  Its fruit, the sloe, ripens very late in autumn and so the blackthorn was venerated at this time of the year.

Although they see the best in most people, those born in the Blackthorn sign dislike arrogance and hate aggression.  They are kind and sympathetic to those who are shy or in distress; it is often the Blackthorn person  who comes to the aid of those in trouble.  They are never boring to be around but their need for solitude can sometimes be taken the wrong way and friends might feel they have done something to offend.
