Buckthorn

September 9 - 20

As the buckthorn’s leaves turn yellow well before those of other trees it was associated with the end of summer.   The bark of the tree is strongly purgative and was widely used as a medicine in ancient times.  It was because of this quality of the bark that buckthorn was ritually burned to rid the fields of evil prior to harvest time.

Although somewhat fussy or faddy, the person born in the Buckthorn sign is good in social circumstances.  At ease in the company of both sexes, they have an entertaining sense of humor and a versatile character, making them the soul of any party.  However, the Buckthorn person often gives the impression that they are not quite sharing the spirit of the occasion as they are usually thinking of more than one thing at once.
