Cherry blossom which adorns the orchards at the end of April was used as decoration for the Mayday celebrations. It was used to make the crowns for the king and queen of the May and was sacred to the deities of love and fertility.  Its sweet fruit that ripened by the end of this cycle was sacred to the goddess of summer.
