Although not introduced into northern Europe until the late Iron Age around 2000 years ago, the sweet chestnut became one of the Celts most sacred trees. Its nuts, contained within their prickly green casing, were regarded as a symbol of the forest spirit. As its catkins appeared on the tree in August it was closely associated with the last of the summer festivals. Those born in the Chestnut sign have great versatility. Endowed with an alert mind and an excellent memory, they are capable of solving many problems that others find difficult. They are especially precise regarding minute detail. Neat and methodical, they take pride in their work. In business, they work best alone, being capable of long periods of devoted activity. Philosophical interests are a marked feature, with considerable originality of ideas. Those born in the Chestnut sign do, however, tend to become so wrapped up in their own work, hobbies or pursuits that they can become isolated from those around them. |
