Like the holly and the ivy, the tough and adaptable spruce is still associated with midwinter celebration as the Christmas tree.  In ancient times the Celts would decorate the spiny evergreen leaves of a spruce tree with gifts to the spirits of winter.  Unlike today, however, it was not cut down but venerated where it stood.

Those born in the Spruce sign are usually optimistic concerning their chosen ventures and a strong sense of intuition often brings them much success. Outwardly the Spruce is humorous, witty and fun-loving, but inwardly they maintain a serious, sharp-eyed attitude to life.   They are ambitious, with the capacity to exercise authority, while a strong will and conscientious attitude results in many Spruce people holding positions of responsibility.   They do, however, tend to have a nasty temper and are sometimes quick to take offence.
